A bag runs about four months in normal garage use — two cars, mats, the odd sawdust cleanup. Heavy use, a workshop, or a renovation will burn through them faster; a second home you visit twice a year, much slower.
We would rather tell you a five-pack lasts nearly two years than sell you three of them. If the subscription's once-a-year plan is more bags than you need, take it anyway or skip it — the point of the plan is that you stop thinking about it, not that you buy more than you use.
Why genuine
The filtration rating is measured with these bags. The 0.3-micron figure describes the whole system — bag, filter and seal working together. A generic bag with different media or a looser collar changes the result, and the number stops being true for your machine.
Non-genuine consumables void the vacuum warranty. That is a two-year warranty traded away to save a couple of dollars on a bag, which is a bad trade in every direction.
Open the lower housing, lift the full bag straight out by its collar — it stays sealed on the way to the trash, which is the whole point of a bag — slide the new collar onto the inlet until it seats, and close up. Replace the motor filter every fifth bag; one comes in every pack, so the timing takes care of itself.
Unplug it and open the lower housing.
